The first round of the South Wales Classic away at Woodlake Park turned out to be an empathic win for the home side.
With views aplenty and sloping greens like Augusta the challenges facing Lakeside were immense. The first Pairings of Peter Sexton and Peter Watkins were unfortunately beaten 7 and 5. The second pairing of Brian Channel and Bob Hazzard although taking the lead early on lost 5 and 4. The final groupings of Derek Pitt and Nick Walters held their nerve on the slick greens and with numerous pars over the 18 holes played eventually losing their game 2 and 1. The hospitality was second to none but as losers the ham, eggs and chips did leave a slight lump in your throat. Congratulations to Woodlake Park The Summer Senior Competitions commenced this morning, after waiting for almost 30 mins for the fog to lift the competitions for 2016 began with enthusiasm and speculation as to who will be crowned the Order of Merit Champion and walk away with a coveted Lakeside Green Jacket.
The results posted below are evidence of some stiff bones and lack of supplements to aid the 18 holes played. There was also a lack lustre approach as far as checking handicap's were concerned, whether is was the old age syndrome kicking in but I have given some leniency for this weeks results. Following competitions members will be disqualified if wrong handicaps are declared. |
